Her research interests include the Gender-based and sexual violence in developing and humanitarian context, professionalization of humanitarian workers, Canadian foreign aid policy, current reforms and dilemmas in the humanitarian system.

Mélanie Coutu has a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in international relations, Foreign Policy and International Cooperation from the University of Quebec in Montreal.  Her masters thesis is called “From Discours to Practice: Gender and United Nations Peackeeping” (Du discours à la pratique : le genre et les opérations de paix des Nations unies). Ms Coutu has authored or co-authored papers and participated in numerous panels on issues related to Gender, Peace and Security. She also has field experience as a Gender Advocacy Advisor in Ghana where she worked with the Ministry of Education. For the past five years, she’s been working for different research facilities and organization as a researcher.
